Kannada Technical Seminar Inaugurated

Director, ISRO Satellite Centre (ISAC), Dr. K.N. Shankara, today inaugurated the annual third Kannada Technical Seminar on 'Man in Space' at Prof. Satish Dhawan Auditorium, ISAC, Bangalore. This seminar, is organized by the Kannada Technical Seminar Committee-2005, which is a part of Karnataka Rajyotsava Samithi.

Inaugurating the seminar, Dr. K.N. Shankara stated in his address that "Human inhabitation in space will be a reality and an achievement of this century. Man has already crossed the limits of earth in the last century and is in relentless search to expand his habitat at the outer space. In this regard there is still a long way to be traversed, in spite of tremendous technological developments. Though budgets being allocated and spent appear to be huge for these developments, this is definitely a necessity keeping in view of the future existence of mankind and its progress; already many countries including India, are deeply involved in such programmes'.

Dr. Shankara express his view that, the technical seminar organized in the centre is very relevant to the present context of space programmes. He appreciated the efforts taken by the seminar committee in organizing the seminar and expressed his happiness that all the technical papers are written in simple Kannada, which can reach common man easily.

An invited talk on "Technology Challenges for Human Space Flight" was delivered by Sri E. Janardhana, an eminent rocket technologist who has recently retired as Deputy Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre.

The inaugural session was followed by the technical session during which ISRO scientists presented papers on various facets and possibilities of human activities in space.
