| MoU signed between Central & Haryana
Government for Digital Base Mapping. | A Memorandum of Understanding
between Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India through Survey
of India and Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of Haryana through
Haryana Space Applications Centre HARSAC for base mapping of Haryana
towns using High Resolution satellite data, was signed here today in the presence
of Shri Prithviraj Chavan, Minister Science & Technology and Earth Science
and Shri Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Chief Minister, Haryana.
The MoU was signed
through Survey of India (SOI), a national mapping and surveying organization under
Science and Technology Department, Govt. of India and Haryana Space Applications
Centre HARSAC, an autonomous body of S & T Department of Haryana.
Speaking
on the occasion, Shri Prithviraj Chavan, Union Minister of Science and Technology
and Earth Science said that the Haryana will be the first state in the country
who will have open series maps having high resolution satellite data. He said
that the fast developing technology of remote sensing, geographical information
system and GPS has brought out a sea change in the way of spatial planning. He
assured Govt. of Haryana that Central Government would extend all possible help
in technological implementation in the State.
Shri Bhupinder Singh Hooda,
Chief Minister, Haryana. mentioned that with the establishment of new industrial
commercial and academic ventures in NCR Region, the process of urbanization has
speeded up posing a greater challenge for proper planning and management of urban
areas in the State. Now, with the signing of this MoU Digital Base Maps for all
the major towns of the State will be prepared to effectively address this urban
planning issues. Shri T. Ramasami, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology,
senior officers of Survey of India and Govt. of Haryana were also present on the
