India has all the necessary ingredients put
in place for catapulting it as a global innovation hub of
the future. This was stated by the Union Minister for Science
& Technology and Earth Sciences, Shri Kapil Sibal while
addressing the valedictory session of 35th NRI Divas, 2007
Strengthening the Bonds here last evening. Shri
Sibal that India today has a large and an impressive stock
of young human resources and high level professional diaspora
creating valuable knowledge linkages. The young human resource
base is ready to usher India into the global economy as power
to reckon with. Indias fast growing economy offers opportunities
to invest not only because of emotional reasons but as also
it offers well established political system ensuring the safe
investment. Indian professionals settled abroad are returning
back in large numbers due to the kind of opportunities available
here at this point of time. The Minister said that here is
an opportunity for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and People
of Indian Origin (PIOs) to tap into Indias huge competent
human resource base. He further said all of them throughout
the world should look towards the land of their origin to
bring not only their money but their hearts too.
Later the Minister presented the Pravasi Awards to the eminent
NRIs and PIOs for their contribution in various fields on
a global platform.
Earlier, speaking on the occasion, the British High Commissioner
to India, H.E. Sir Michael Arthur said that last year India
has become the second biggest investor after USA replacing
Japan. Pandit Manasdev Prasad of the partner country of Trinidad
and Tobago also said that the GDP in his country has doubled
in the last few years and invited diaspora connections to
invest there.
The NRI Institutes 35th International Event-NRI DIVAS
2007 Strengthening The Bonds, brought together
more than 400 Global Indians on 9th & 10th January 2007,
at Hotel InterContinental The Grand, New Delhi. With Trinidad
& Tobago being the Partner Country, the evening witnessed
the coming together of some of the most renowned Non Resident
Indians (NRIs) and People of Indian Origin (PIOs).
