Kapil Sibal Announces New Rural Technology Award
 

Minister for Science and Technology, Shri. Kapil Sibal today announced a new Rural Innovation Technology Development Award worth Rs. 10 Lakhs.Launching the exhibition-cum-fair on rural technologies at Bahadurpur Jais, Raibareily in Uttar Pradesh, he said, the award will be given to those who serve the rural masses through their innovations in rural technologies.

More than 200 rural technologies are being displayed at the exhibition which will continue till 22nd February, 2006. Shri. Sibal said the aim of the exhibition is to bridge the gap between the urban and rural divide.He said it also aims at empowering the rural India fulfilling the UPA government's committment to "Bharat Nirman" programme. Recalling Mahatma Gandhi's words that India lives in villages, the Minister said that empoerment of rural masses is not possible without science and technology.

Shri Rahul Gandhi, Member of Parliament, Amethi also spoke on the occasion.He said the exhibition will benefit people of both Amethi and Raibariely constituencies and appealed to the people to take full advantage of the efforts of the Science and Tecnology Ministry to bring technology at their doorstep.

Besides several innovative rural technologies, the exhibition also provides a counter where people can register their technological requirements. Shri. Sibal assured that his Ministry will make every effort, including arranging finances, to deliver it at their doorstep.
