The National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) is a public sector company of the Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology wholly dedicated to the developing, licensing and commercialisation of indigenous technologies. Its basic charter involves technical, commercial and financial measures needed for closing gaps in the ‘innovation chain’ through which an idea, invention or process is converted into a product in the market. Given the nature of the technology market in the country, the Corporation has to make special efforts to get our industry to accept indigenously developed technologies for commercialisation.

The Corporation’s income from its principal sources of revenue i.e. lump sum premium and royalty on the licensing of indigenous technologies to industry in 2005-06 was Rs.380.40 lakhs as compared to Rs. 326.24 lakhs in 2004-05. A motivated strategic drive coupled with pragmatic sustained efforts by officers and staff of the Corporation, has resulted in an enhanced Surplus before tax of Rs.26.05 lakhs in 2005-06 as compared to Rs. 12.60 lakhs in 2004-05

The Corporation continued its efforts to widen its technology resource base by nurturing long-term relationships with R&D Organisations as well as Universities/Technical Institutes/ Industries. The Corporation signed 39 licence agreements with industry during the year. Some of the major technologies licensed by the Corporation during the year were: Area Specific Mineral Mixture to Increase Productivity of Bovines, Vaccine For Viral Disease Caused by Pests Des Petits Ruminants (PPR) Incorporating Vaccine Strain, Foot and Mouth Disease Vaccine for Cattle, Coco lawn, Long Shelf Life Paneer, Herbal Ghee.
