SHRIMATI. N.P. DURGA : Will the Minister of SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
be pleased to state: (a) whether it is a fact that the Indian National Science
Academy and the Science Foundation of Ireland have signed an agreement during
the recent visit of the Prime Minister of Ireland; and (b) if so, the salient
features of the agreement? ANSWER MINISTER OF SCIENCE
& TECHNOLOGY AND MINISTER OF OCEAN DEVELOPMENT (KAPIL SIBAL) (a)
Yes Sir, it is a fact that the Indian National Science Academy and the Science
Foundation Ireland signed an Agreement on scientific cooperation on 19th January
2006 during the recent visit of the Prime Minister of Ireland. (b) The
Agreement will promote bilateral cooperation between India and Ireland in world-class
scientific research in the area of bio-sciences and bio-engineering and information
and communication technologies. This will also encourage direct cooperation between
scientists for the solution of scientific problems of common interest through
exchange of scientific information and exchange of scientists and joint research
proposals/projects, where appropriate, under the purview of the Agreement signed.
