Will the Minister of SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY be pleased to state: (a)
the details of the conditional loans/grants sanctioned by the Government under
the Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Research Programme during each of the last three
years and the current year; (b) whether any guidelines have been issued to
promote research and development projects by small and medium Drug units in the
area of bulk drugs; and (c) if so, the details thereof? ANSWER MINISTER

The details of conditional loans/grants sanctioned by the Government to pharma
industries/institutions under the Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Research Programme
during each of the last three years (2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08) and the current
year (2008-09) are given in the Annexure. (b) & (c): Yes, Sir. The Department
has issued guidelines to enable any Indian Pharma Industry which includes small
and medium Drug units in the area of bulk drugs to avail conditional loans to
promote research and development projects on new drug development and grants-in-aid
for clinical trials (Phase-I, II & III) to develop new drugs for neglected
diseases of tropical region under Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Research Programme.
This programme also provides grants-in-aid to public funded national laboratories,
universities / other academic institutions for undertaking industry-institutional
collaborative R&D projects and for establishing national facilities on drugs
& pharma sector. ANNEXURE THE DETAILS OF THE CONDITIONAL
