517. Shri E.G. SUGAVANAM :

Will the Minister of SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government proposes to open Science Universities independently in the country ;

(b) if so, the details alongwith the locations identified thereof;

(c) whether any consultation has been made with the Ministries of HRD and Health and Family Welfare in this regard; and

(d) if so, the details thereof ?

(KAPIL SIBAL)

(a) to (d) : In order to strengthen science education in the country, the Ministry of Human Resource Development have set up world class institutions in science to be called Indian Institutes of Science, Education and Research (IISER) at Kolkata and Pune and academic sessions in these Institutes have already been started from August, 2006.
