FELLOWSHIP SCHEME FOR WOMEN SCIENTISTS

Will the Minister of SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY be pleased to
state:
(a) whether the Government has instituted fellowship schemes
for outstanding women scientists in the field of basic and
applied sciences and in the field of application of technology
for rural development;
(b) if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the number of women scientists awarded fellowships during
each of the last three years, State-wise?

STATEMENT AS REFERRED IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF THE
STARRED QUESTION NO.534 FOR 11.05.2007 REGARDING FELLOWSHIP
SCHEME FOR WOMEN SCIENTISTS
(a) Yes Sir.
(b) The department of Science & Technology has been implementing
a Fellowship Scheme for Women Scientists since 2003 to encourage
women with high qualifications in science, engineering, medicine,
etc. to come back to mainstream of science and technology.
Fellowships are awarded every year in three categories namely,
(i) Fellowships for Women Scientists and Technologists in
Research Institutions and Universities for Research in Basic
and Applied Sciences (Category 'A'), (ii) Fellowships for
Women Scientists for Research in S&T based Societal Programmes
(Category 'B') and (iii) Fellowships for Women Scientists
for S&T based Self Employment Opportunities (Category
'C'). These schemes are open to all and advertised all over
the country.
(c) Status of fellowship awarded to women scientists under
