I. Meeting of Vigilance Officers of Sub-ordinate offices and aided institutes under DST

A meeting of the Vigilance Officers of Subordinate Offices and Aided Institutes under the Department was held by the Chief Vigilance Officer on 6^th & 7^th August, 2008 at Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore. In this meeting, guest lecturers from various fields of the society, including Shri N. Vittal, former Central Vigilance Commissioner, Shri M. N. Vidyashankar, IAS, Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka, Shri Rupak Kumar Datta, Addl. Director General of Police, Karnataka Lokayukta, Prof. N. S. Ramaswamy, Padmabhushan and national professor of Management, were invited to deliver lectures on various topics on Vigilance, namely Handling of whistle Blowers, Challenges and Opportunities of Part-time Vigilance Officer in scientific / aided institutions, Role of Technology in Vigilance, Anti-Corruption Strategy, Administrative Measures to prevent Corruption, Ethics and Moral Values and e-Procurement. The vigilance Officers were also sensitized to be more alert and prompt in dealing with the vigilance cases and maintain overall vigilance in thier respective offices.

II. Vigilance Awareness Week 2008

As per the direction of Central Vigilance Commision, the Department observed 'Vigilance Awareness Week' from 03-07 Nov., 2008.

The pledge related to the celebration of the Vigilance Awareness Week was administered to the officers and staff of DST and DSIR on 03.11.2008 at 11. A.M. near the Flag-post in DST Complex. Dr Laxman Prasad, Adviser in DST and Dr. A. S Rao, Sc. 'G' in DSIR administered the pledge in Hindi and English respectively. In the afternoon, CVO, DST had interaction session with the Scientists and Officers of TIFAC where views of CVC on vigilance awareness were shared and various vigilance related issues were discussed.

On 04.11.2008, an inter-active session between the Officers/ Scientists of various Divisions of the Department and Users of Services provided to various institutions was organized to sensitize them about the problem beig faced by them while dealing with each other.

On 07.11.2008, a lecture on "Handling of Whistle Blowers", the theme of this year's celebration of Vigilance Awareness Week, was delivered by Shri K. L. Ahuja, Director, Central Vigilance Commission.
