CERN-India Collaborative Projects

DST (along with DAE) continued its funding for participation of Indian groups in CMS and ALICE experiments at the up-coming Large Hadron Collider at CERN, Geneva. These projects were monitored by a high-level Committee. These projects were progressing as per the schedule of these large international collaborative experiments.

Seminar/Symposia And Assistance To Professional Bodies

The scheme for seminar/symposia and assistance to professional bodies aims to promote active involvement of Professional S&T Bodies and Science Academies for National Development; encourage and support Professional S&T Bodies and Science Academies for promoting interaction amongst themselves, fermentation of new ideas for societal development and extend financial, logistic and administrative support to scientific groups and scientific institutions/universities in the country for organising scientific events.

About 115 International and 215 national conferences/workshops were supported in this period. Grantin-aid was provided to about 25 Professional Bodies/Societies for publication of important journals. Some of the notable ones are:

• The Allahabad Mathematical Society, a scientific organisation for promoting the cause of advanced study and research in various branches of mathematics including theoretical physics and mathematical statistics, publishes the Indian Journal of Mathematics (IJM). It endeavors to publish significant research papers in different branches of mathematics and mathematical statistics.
  
• The Journal of the Orchid Society of India is an international Journal published by The Journal of The Orchid Society of India, Chandigarh to disseminate advances about orchids. The journal publishes articles related to taxonomy, morphology, anatomy, embryology, morphogenesis, cytology and cytogenetics, histo-/cyto-chemistry, physiology, evolution and experimental studies etc. of orchids.
  
• The ISET Journal of Earthquake Technology is published by Indian Society of Earthquake Technology. The journal focuses papers in the field of earthquake technology dealing with seismological and engineering aspects
• Sugar Tech – An International Journal of Sugar Crops and Related Industries is published by Society for Sugar Research and Promotion. The society aims to constitute a forum at international level for bringing together activities of individuals and organizations involved in sugar crops and related industry activities and also to promote and undertake Research and Development and Extension Services in the field of sugar crops and value added products.
• Journal of the Geological Society of India is a premier earth science journal of India which publishes peer-reviewed articles under the category of Review Papers, Research Papers, Short Communications, Notes, Corporate News, Correspondence, Discussion and Book Review. The articles published deal with all aspects of Earth System Science.
  
• The Journal of Applied Geochemistry is published by Indian Society of Applied Geochemists covers all aspects of the application of geochemistry to exploration and study of mineral resources and related fields, including the geochemistry of environment. The important topics include: analytical geochemistry, environmental studies/ environmental geochemistry, experimental geochemistry, exploration geochemistry, ocean sciences, fluid inclusions, geochemical engineering, geo-mathematics/geo-statistics and data processing, geochemical mapping, hydro-geochemistry, isotope geochemistry, mineralogy/mineral chemistry, petrology/petro-chemistry, pollution & effluent geochemistry, ore geochemistry, organic geochemistry, petroleum geochemistry and other related fields.
